Sport Accuracy

Sport accuracy was developed by Jeff Steinkamp and Jim Hayhurst to reintroduce competition accuracy to mainstream jumpers. As the traditional accuracy competition developed to require more specialized equipment, many mainstream jumpers lost interest in accuracy competition. Sport accuracy offers a way for weekend jumpers to have friendly, fun competitions using their regular paracute gear. It can be adapted to be fun and fair for almost any group of jumpers, even if there is a wide range of experience. Sport Accuracy was an event in the USPA Nationals from 2001 through 2006. Sport Accuracy is still an event in the USPA Collegiate Nationals and in the Canadian Nationals. Sport Accuracy is also a popular event in many Parachutists Over Phorty (POPS) competitions around the world.

In 2002, Jeff Steinkamp presented a seminar on Sport Accuracy at the Rantoul World Freefall Convention. Sport Accuracy Seminar notes by Tamara Koyn are available on her Cloud Dancer Web Site. This article has a very good description of how to do Sport Accuracy safely with almost any main canopy. Any instructor, jumpmaster or coach can help you get started doing safe sport accuracy.
